Where Do We Begin…

I’m pretty good at being chaotic and knowing that if my brain puts an idea in my head, there’s a high chance that I’ll do it - that’s how BrunoCon was born.

Why did I pick this as the name? There’s a certain song I loved back in 2021/2022 about a certain someone who’s not supposed to be discussed. Having been in the conference circuit for a few years, I’ve been denied a fair share of proposals. And that’s OK. Every topic is not meant for every space. So I wanted a blank canvas for folks in, or out, of the security community to come and share things that they WANT to talk about but may not have the right venue for it.

Have an intersection between anime power levels and service level agreements? I wanna hear about it. Which reality TV star from 90 Day Fiance is a certain vulnerability type? Let’s talk. Mental and emotional safety or harm in the workplace that you’ve experienced? Share it right now. What is it REALLY like to work for one of those extra large companies? I know people wanna know.

If you’re from an underrepresented or ignored community, I want you here. If you’re a first time speaker, I want you here.

Chatham House Rule

Let’s start with what that is or means.

According to Thomson Reuters, it is defined as “When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed. The purpose of the rule is to encourage open discussion since anything said is "off the record".

This means that the conference will not be recorded. I will operate with privacy first and foremost and always. Be mindful that some of the topics can be sensitive or possibly detrimental to a person or some people just don’t want to be recorded and I want to give that opportunity.

When the conference goes live, the names of talks will be given but the speaker themselves will not be shared.

  • To those in underrepresented groups, first time speakers, and those who have unusual, unique, or overlooked topics within technology, security, and/or compliance a chance to speak without pressure

  • To give space for those who feel “othered” in their community

    • Non-performative inclusivity: a movement to truly include all folks from all walks of life, not just what the traditional boardroom looks like

    • Ingenuity: we want to hear your thoughts, all of them; we all have our own original thoughts that are worth hearing

    • Kindness: life is too short; be kind to yourself and others but take no shit

    • Privacy: what we talk about here stays here
